Goa is India’s smallest state but one of its most varied: beaches and nightlife, forests and waterfalls, Portuguese-era churches and forts. If you want more than a beach lounger, these five adventures are worth your time.

1. Water sports on the northern beaches
Calangute, Baga and neighbouring beaches offer parasailing, jet-skiing, banana-boat rides and more. Always choose operators who provide life jackets and briefings, and avoid water sports during rough sea conditions.
2. Dolphin-spotting boat trips
Early-morning boat trips from places such as Sinquerim and Dona Paula often spot dolphins in the open water. Sightings are never guaranteed, but the sunrise on the water is a reward in itself.
3. Dudhsagar Waterfalls
One of India’s tallest waterfalls, set in the forests of the Western Ghats. Most visitors reach it by jeep safari; access arrangements vary with the season, so check locally before you go.
4. Spice plantation tours
A half-day tour introduces you to cardamom, pepper, vanilla and cashew, usually with a traditional lunch on banana leaf.
5. Dinner in the sky
End the trip with something no other destination can offer: a table suspended around 50 metres (about 160 feet) above ground, seating up to 24 guests, with an open view of the coast. Dishes are pre-set with fixed portions, and the session is led by a trained crew.
